Claim Detail Message

The Claim Detail Message Suite Standard (CDM) provides three formats which support owners/administrators of Musical Works and senders of Sales and Usage Reports (usually DSPs) in the exchange of information about the claims the owners/administrators of Musical Works make against DSPs in respect of the Musical Works that appear in the Sales and Usage Reports.

The three formats are:

• The Claim Detail Message format (CDM) is a response to a Sales and Usage Report received (usually from a DSP) by an owner/administrator of Musical Works which sets out the claim each owner/administrator is making in respect of the Musical Works identified in the Sales and Usage Report. The format also contains all the calculation details behind the individual and aggregate royalty claim being made by each owner/administrator to a level of detail that the DSP can carry out suitable analysis;
• The Reporting Record Discrepancies Message format is a response to a CDM which allows a DSP to communicate discrepancies that it has detected, or believes to have detected (other than overclaims) in a Claim Detail Message it has received from an owner/administrator of Musical Works; and
• The Reporting Overclaim Discrepancies Message format is also a response to a CDM which allows a DSP to communicate overclaim discrepancies that it has detected, or believes to have detected. An Overclaim Discrepancy occurs where two or more owners/administrators of Musical Works have made claims in respect of a single Musical Work that exceed 100% of the total allowed Claim.

The CDM Standard is provided in multiple parts:

• Part 1 defines the file naming convention and the general architecture. This architecture is the same as used for the Sales and Usage Report Standard;
• Part 2 defines the record types that are used to make claims or report discrepancies;
• Part 3 defines the Claim Detail Message;
• Parts 4 defines the Reporting Record Discrepancies; and
• Part 5 defines Reporting Overclaim Discrepancies.

The allowed values for the CDM Standard formats are defined in Part 2 of the Sales and Usage Report Standard.
